Internet Censorship

THE AUSTRALIA GOVERNMENT PLANS TO CONTINUE, DESPITE THE FACT THAT NO ONE WANTS THIS, INCLUDING CHILD PROTECTION AGENCIES.

I am writing to Senator Conroy.

Senator Stephen Conroy
Minister for Communication, Broadband and the Digital Economy
Level 4
4 Treasury Place
Melbourne
Victoria
3002

Please do the same. Do not email. Write. A thousand letters has more impact than ten thousand emails which are deleted with the push of a button. They MUST reply to a letter in kind.

No icon expresses my rage.

If anyone wants, I will write a letter which can be printed. Just put in your name and sign. My letter included below if you want to read and be inspired (my real details are omitted).

Please do not copy and cut this as it raises personal points from previous correspondence with the senator.

Dear Senator Conroy,

I have written to you once before on this very matter. Internet Censorship. Last time, I was exceptionally polite, and in return I was given a stock standard letter which addressed NONE of the points I had raised in my letter to you and instead chose to ignore the legitimate concerns raised in favour of telling me facts which had nothing to do with the matter at hand.

No other Western nation implements Internet censorship of the type being planned. No other Western country would be allowed to get away with such a brutal culling of democratic rights to establish a government controlled database where people’s information is held in a choke hold that they are not even allowed to view.

I will not accept the Internet censorship. I will not accept your extremist behaviour and views over my right to view information about euthanasia, about gambling. I am a law abiding citizen, and what you plan offends my very sensibilities. This planned censorship will do nothing to target the problems it purports to combat, a statement that has come from the police and numerous child protection agencies and yet you insist on continuing with this waste of money and heinous violation of my rights as an adult to access information which I have perfectly legal reasons to be interested in.

As a writer, your naive and ignorant plan damages my ability to research. As a citizen, it offends my very sense of living in a free nation when I see my government behaving in a manner closer to that of the Chinese dictatorship, North Korea’s dictatorship and the extreme religious governments of some Middle Eastern nations.

This blacklist will do nothing to stop the despicable behaviour of pedophiles and everything to punish, antagonise and ostracise the law abiding citizens to whom criminal activity is already abhorrent.

Were I rich, I would have the luxury of moving to another country, where this sort of policy would be rejected in the face of the public outcry and revulsion. Were I rich, I would be able to move when a law doesn’t suit my needs, much as you and your wife moved to avoid the law against surrogacy, to enable you to have your family.

Do not tell me it is not the same. You moved to avoid the legal ramifications of a choice you wished to make. I do not have that right, because I am not rich and you will be enforcing your personal ignorance of how the Internet functions and is used on the entire nation.

Well done. You will punish your voting majority while the pedophiles are laughing.

I am a citizen. I vote.

And if this continues, I will not be voting for you.

Your voting citizen.
